As a young girl, Gennie Johnson loved drawing, painting and anything that was creative, but only over the past several years has her talent as an artist blossomed.

The evolvement of Gennie's artistic talent has been interspersed with job responsibilities as a kindergarten teacher, insurance policy financier, tole painting teacher and running a catering business for several years, raising a family, dedication as a community volunteer and general dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others, particularly breast cancer survivors.

As a community volunteer, Gennie has given greatly of her time to a multitude of civic projects, boards and causes, but her love of the arts has been evidenced by many of her efforts, including chairing the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts and serving on the Board of the Arts Council of Oklahoma City for nineteen years.

Gennie has studied with Jim Wilcox (a former Prix de West Award winner), Leonard Wren, Judy McCombs, Dennis Parker and Shirley Barbour Lowe. She also has been greatly influenced by the work of the great artist Richard Schmid. She has enjoyed plein art painting on Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands, the Tetons and Cape Cod. Her paintings also reflect her love of the beauty of New Zealand, Italy and France.

Gennie's paintings are impressionistic in style with an emphasis on creating excitement through the interlacing of colors with appealing architectural and landscape subjects.
